What's new on Artyfactory?

Art Timelines

Our ART TIMELINES offer a simple outline of western and modern art history with brief explanations of the most important styles from Gothic Art to Minimalism. They also list the major artists and illustrate a key painting from each movement.

Pop Art Portraits

Pop Art Portrait Lessons

Our new Pop Art Portrait Lessons offer you the choice of two projects:

Our Pop Art lessons use the iconic portraits of celebrities to demonstrate the bold and colorful techniques of this popular art style from the 1960's.

Pop Art And Pop Artists

Pop Art is our latest art appreciation tutorial and can be found in the Art Movements section of our Art Appreciation page.

The Artyfactory Quiz Page

Artyfactory Quiz Page

Another of our latest developments is the Artyfactory Quiz Page. This offers you a fun way to develop your knowledge and demonstrate what you know about a subject. Each quiz is designed as an aid to learning with its own inbuilt assessment and can be used in combination with one of our lessons.

Our Quiz Page can be accessed from any page on Artyfactory by using the question mark button on the navigation bar.

African Masks

Try out our African Mask Quiz.

African Masks

African Masks - We have doubled the number of mask examples and visually enhanced the navigation between them with thumbnail image links. We have also included interactive maps that indicate the territory of the tribe associated with each mask.

Who is Artyfactory?

Artyfactory is designed, illustrated and written by myself, John MacTaggart, an art teacher from Glasgow, Scotland. I graduated from the Glasgow School of Art in 1974 and have more than thirty years teaching experience. One day several years ago, I sat down with a library book to teach myself something about web design and just kept on going. Artyfactory is the result so far.

Advertising and Links

In order to keep Artyfactory a completely free resource, we run Google Ads to fund the hosting and maintenance of the site. We are aware that schools and younger people use Artyfactory and consequently we have filtered the banners that we display. If however, there are any adverts that you consider unsuitable, please do not hesitate to inform us so that we may take appropriate action.

Although we take care only to link to reputable sites, we cannot be responsible for the actions of other web sites. If you have any doubts about visiting our links, please read or inquire about their privacy policy.

Linking Policy

Thank you to all who link to Artyfactory.

We really appreciate your links which help to maintain Artyfactory as a free educational resource.

Using Our Images

If you wish to use an image from Artyfactory please observe these three rules:

 • Please do not link directly to the image (hotlinking) as this uses up bandwidth on our server.
 • Copy the image to your site and use it on your own server.
 • Please provide a link back to us. You can make your own link or you may copy and use the following:

www.artyfactory.com

(hotlinking): This is bandwidth theft by direct linking to a web site's files (images, video, etc.). When you view a web page, you are using that site's bandwidth to display the files. Since web hosts charge based on the amount of data transferred, bandwidth is an issue. If a site is over its monthly bandwidth, it's billed for the extra data or taken offline. A simple analogy for 'hotlinking': Imagine a random stranger plugging into your electrical supply, using your electricity without your consent, and you paying for it.

We hope that you enjoy using Artyfactory
and find our lessons informative and fun.
